People in UAE are really amazing. Whether they are rich or not very , famous or not yet but they are active, talented and challenging. They always searching who they are what is their talent and what they could do to make the world better. It is big words but what can i do if i meet such people only!
Meet Cornelia!
Name: CORNELIA BACIU
Nationality: Romanian (married to Emirati)
Romanian Mixed Media Artist and Wearable Art Designer born in Bucharest in 1979, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philology Foreign Languages and Translation - living and working in Abu Dhabi since 2008. Until recently I had a full time job but I have decided now to concentrate on my passion -wearable art design (I would like to thank my wonderful husband for all the support in making my dream come true). I had always created my own accessories because I am the kind of person who wants to escape from the ordinary and make a statement. It all started when family and friends began admiring my designs and soon more and more people contacted me to create unique pieces for them and to exhibit my work in galleries and different venues in Europe and Abu Dhabi. At the moment for the entire month of August 2011 my work is exhibited in Ghaf Art Gallery in Abu Dhabi.
The purpose of my artwork is to show that even though we are used to see art only in museums or art galleries we can bring it to life in a different way - reinventing and reinterpreting it in original and unique sculptural constructions of mixed media wearable art.
I create unique designs for those who appreciate art and beauty, for the person that wants to escape from the ordinary and make a statement. The purpose of my creations is to reflect the personality of the individual who wears them and to make her more special because of its unique appearance, the originality, the bold and daring design and not necessarily because of the preciousness of the material.
I focus in particular on combined contemporary design and various mixed media techniques, creating unusual works of wearable art using acrylic, inks, polymer clay, wire and resin. My designs can be considered bold and daring, they capture the attention of people around us and they are meant to be out of the ordinary, to make a statement and express the personality of the person who wears them. Each piece is one of a kind, meticulously handmade and hand painted and cannot be exactly reproduced. It is meant for a person who wants to be original and to be able to say “no one else has what I am wearing!” For the moment my studio is not a very big workspace but inshallah it will be expanded by the end of November.
Regarding the creating process -
first I choose a painting or a sculpture that inspires me or the customer presents me with one that she would like me to use as inspiration. After that I draw a sketch of the necklace or set – I never go anywhere without my sketching pad! I select the colors and the materials that I want to use. Unfortunately the materials that I am using cannot be found in UAE so I have to order them from the US or Europe.
Many of my clients (Emirati or Arab) order pieces that go very well with abayas (I love wearing my creations with abaya as well ). I love UAE as it is now my second country and I respect the traditions and the heritage and I include this many times in my designs. One of my latest creations is a piece inspired by Sheikh Zayed Mosque that is exhibited for the entire month of August at Ghaf Art Gallery in Abu Dhabi.
